3 Types of Lights You Can Add to Brighten Your Kitchen
If you are interested in making your kitchen look brighter and lighter without having to drill a ton of lights into your ceiling, then consider the following three options.
Island Lights
One of the best ways to add more light to your kitchen is by adding island lights. Of course, this only works well if you have an island. Island lights come in the form of pendant lights, lamp shades, and connected hanging lights.
Any of these lights will work well above your island, and you may find that you do not need to turn on the rest of the lights in your kitchen if you add enough.
As a good rule, try to add bar lights in a set of three or five. Two lights will not usually provide enough light, so you need more. Also, add the lights in odd numbers so that they look balanced. You can even alternate colors of pendant lighting fixtures if you choose to go this route. You can easily find island lights for under $200, so this project will not break the bank.
Cabinet Lights
Not as many people are familiar with cabinet lights, but they can make a world of difference when you are cooking and need better lighting. Under cabinet lights can be attached by drilling them into the bottom of the cabinets. You will usually just add these lights under the cabinets that are right over your counter.
You can get lights that all turn on at the same time, or you can add individual lights so that you can control which ones are on when you are in the kitchen.
Also, consider cordless lights because you do not want cords all over the counters. Of course, you can always hide the cords by stapling them along the sides of the lights along the backside of the cabinet.
This is also a great option if you need to leave a light on in the kitchen at night but do not want to leave one of your brighter lights on.
Can Lights
Lastly, consider adding can or recessed lights to your kitchen as well. You can easily do this by getting the proper drill piece that is circular and that will drill out the right size for each light in your ceiling.
Once you have the holes drilled, you can fit the cans in and run wires up into the ceiling until you get the electrical wires to the electrical box. You can get these lights in diameters of four, five, and six inches, so you can select the right size and add as many as you want.
By adding one or more of these types of light, you can easily add more light to your kitchen without breaking the bank. For further tips to revamp or remodel your kitchen, talk to professionals such as Wetherington Restoration & Remodeling Inc.
